Inspired by Joe Wigfall, a New York Street Photographer I decided to try my hand at shooting everyday people without looking through the camera. Now as you see from the video, Joe is the master at this, he sees with hands, and this enables him to see everything that’s going on around him.

I used the Warkworth Kowhai Festival to try this, and just decided that all photos would be black and white regardless. As I walked around I just spotted things and snapped, never looking through the viewfinder. I normally shoot in manual, but this requires looking at the camera’s exposure meter, since I restricted myself from this, I shot in aperture priority. I loved waiting to see what I got once I was home, this is definitely something I’ll do again.
