Wedding Photography that is about you

Wedding photography is the favourite part of my job. Some say it’s the hardest discipline in photography because it covers so many aspects in such a short space of time with little time to prepare. The technical side is huge, we have to know our gear inside out, understand lighting, composition, and getting the right exposure on every shot. Being a boy, I do like the technical side.

But weddings are about people, and I believe the best wedding photographers are about the people first, and the gear second. We have to instantly make connections with your guests, calm them, instill confidence, and interact with them respecfully to get the shot. A great photo will always be seen as a great photo, but the memory when seeing it can be ruined by a bad experience. A great experience however can enhance the memories the photos are trying to depict.

What motivates me is the story I’m showing. In 50yrs time I hope you will look back at my photos and feel the same emotions that you felt on the day, this is the thought that runs through my head all day. There are the big events, the traditional things that happen that we all capture, but I also like to look closely at the guests, the details, the environment, even the people like me that are there to help. It all builds up to creating that perfect memory.

People often ask me about my style, is it more candid, posed, traditional, or photojournalistic. The truth is my photographic style changes depending on your needs. I put a lot of effort up front to understand your vision for the wedding, and I make changes to the way I shoot to adapt to this. This excites me, it means every client is treated differently according to their personalities, and it adds variety to my work. One thing about my 'style' that always remains true is that I will treat you and your guests with the utmost respect and professionalism and constantly seek out the best ways to produce flattering portraiture, stunning landscapes, simple details, and an ever lasting memory for you.
